Day 24 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

WOW! Lost 500g yesterday, now weigh 76.4kg. Been about a year since I saw this weight. Another nth of a lb and I have lost a stone.
Have to admit, didn't eat much yesterday. After spending the morning trying to catch my escaped hunting dog Toby with my daughter and worrying about the locals, I really lost my apettite. Wonder if I put that weight back on?
I did have a lovely mackeral yesterday which was grilled with lemmon juice and parsley.
Total weight 76.4kg, which is just over 168 lbs.

Walking in the morning

Author: Angie Labels:: ,

I normally walk in the afternoon when the sun is already high in the sky and very hot. This morning the light was so different it was lovely. When I reached the Risco and looked to Haria and the coast at Arrieta I could see the sea twinkling. I wish I had my good camera with me.

The walk started with the clouds overhead and a blustery wind but ended with a warming breeze and hot sun. It was lovely! How easy is a brisk 2 hour walk when you live here?!

Mistakes

Author: Angie Labels::

It is so easy to make mistakes which could make a difference. The book says one thing but people who pay for coaching get a different picture. Fair? I don't think so. I cannot afford coaching and I am sure many others cannot either. Yet we deserve as much support if we have comitted to the diet. Anyway, thank god for the Facebook group and everyones support is all I can say! The most valuable tool.

So, milk, yoghurt, quark, fromage frais; despite being on the as much as you like list there is a top limit according to the group:

Up to 3tbsp skimmed milk powder, and 250mls skimmed milk and up to 1L yog/ff/quark per day on Cruise

Day 20 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

Well, I am 77.6kg and my period started on Wednesday which means I managed to loose weight the week before when I was retaining water but I think the asparagus and green tea helped. The weight loss has slowed down at the end of this week so I do hope it picks up again.

Egg Revelation

Author: Angie Labels::

I have got really annoyed about the issue of how many eggs you can eat in a day on this diet. It seems alot of people have been confused about how many eggs we are allowed a day on the Dukan Diet and no one has had the deffinitive answer, with questions going unanswered by the Dukan team.

In the end I emailed Dukan to ask them to clarify. This was their first reply:

If you do not have a problem with cholesterol, it is recommended that you can eat one egg yolk a day, and as many egg whites as you like.

I replied to the email pointing out that this information is contradictory to the book which clearly states eggs as been allowed and as many as you want. This was their second reply:

If you don't have any problems with cholesterol it is not going to hurt you to have eaten more than one egg a day, they are an excellent source of protein. There seems to have been some hysteria in the UK about egg intake at the moment which is why we posted on our FAQ the information I told you about. Please do not worry.

So, it seems the Dukan team do not want to be seen promoting the consumotion of eggs because of the problems of cholesterol and health. However, reading between the lines they can be unlimited.

Here is a link regarding egg consumption from the British Heart Foundation

The Dukan Diet: my experience and advice

Author: Angie Labels::

This is in extract of an article I have written for Plus Size and Tall:

The Dukan Diet has been devised over many years by a French doctor, Dr Dukan, who has spent his career helping people to loose weight permanently. The diet is designed in four phases to help you loose weight fast and then help you maintain your weight when you reach your goal. I have just completed the second week of the Dukan Diet and so far have lost 8.3lb’s. But is this diet a fad or does it really work?

As a girl in my 20’s I was very active and never weighed more than 7 stone. However, with each child (I have three) I put on more weight and my lifestyle had become more sedentary. When I had my third child in my mid 30’s the weight did not shift! A story common to all of us I am sure.
The largest size I think I have been is a large size 16, which over the years I got down to a size 14 where the weight remained stable with exercise.
A year ago I became very anaemic and as a result was unable to climb stairs easily let alone exercise! My weight also accelerated and I felt very uncomfortable and very lethargic.
As soon as I had my anaemia under control (which has taken ten months) I decided to try and improve my fitness however, to do this I felt I needed to loose some weight first. For the first time in my life I decided to go on a diet and buy some scales.

Day 15 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

Wow, weight is falling off at the moment. Making up for last week! Today I weighed 77.8kg which is a loss of 600g or over a pound. Maybe the asparagus and green tea is having some effect. Because I live in an arid country I do notice when the heat picks up I do hold water, I feel it in my hands.
Anyway, after I do some work this morning I am going to go for a long walk. Think I will give the beach and swimming a miss today.

Day 14 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

At last! My weight has shifted by 500g. Phew! Lets see if it continues to fall again. Although, many women on the cruise from the Facebook group say that they only weigh themselves once a week. Not sure I am ready to do that yet.
I have been keeping up with my swimming and hope to step it up a bit next week. The only problem I am finding is that I find it hard to warm up after a swim.
I have been walking every day too but have taken a days rest from the abs etc exercise as I think I over did it and ouch!
Food has been quite successful. For my PV days this week I have had a chicken stir fry, yummy, bolgnaise with strips of courgette, and today will be having roast chicken and salad.
I have also started drinking green tea and eating asparagus as they are a diuretic and increase metabolism.
Well, I am off to the beach this afternoon for more swimming. Fingers crossed I loose some more weight tomorrow!
Opps, nearly forgot to write weight
Weight: 78.4kg  172.8 lbs 12.3 stone

Day 11 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

On Monday I weighed in at 79.2kg and on Tuesday I weighed 78.9kg where I have been stuck since so not a happy bunny :(
The cruise diet is much easier now I have added vegetables every other day to my diet. I have also started drinking green tea which is OK.
The sun has been shining and have manged to get on the beach pretty much every day so have started my swimming training. A bit of a slow start as I am so unfit but good to get back into it. Got a new pair of goggles too which was exciting for me. Have been walking every day and have just startd my core exercises. Inches are coming off (2.5 off waist and 1 off bust) but I wish my weight would move again.
Added wheat bran to my oatbran today to see if it will get things moving as a bit constipated.
Just a little PS: wheat bran works!

Day 5 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

Total Lost 5.20lbs
This is the heaviest I weighed before my anemia and I started boxing, so kinnda back where I stared and I know I can loose the weight with exercise alone so looking forward to exercising and diet!
I only lost 200g yesterday which is a bit of a dissapointment as I was hoping to loose more but maybe it is because the fish I had last night was quite salty so I am holding water. My knuckes do feel a bit swollen...
Anyway, beach today, maybe walk, I am not sure but will deffinately be going to enjoy the sun.
Weight 79.8kg 175.92 lbs 12.5 stone

Day 3 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

I have been trying to weigh myself at the same time each day which is in the morning, so after 2 whole days of the diet I have lost 1.4kg or 3.081bs. Not too bad. I think yesterday I overate as the meatloaf I had for dinner was yummy, and the kids liked it too which was a result!
I had the galette on Monday which was nice but had run out of Quark yesterday so had a yoghurt in the evening with the oat bran and some sweetner but felt too full after. Think I ate too late to be honest.
I am snacking on crab sticks which is working out well.
Walking is going well and have walked every day with the dog.
Drinking lots of water.
I do feel tired but I always feel tired anyway so do not know if it is because of the diet. On the thrid day and do not feel europhic as the book suggests!
Weight on the 7th July 2010: 80.6kg (177.69Ibs, 12.69 stone) A loss of 1.4kg or 3.081bs

Day 1 on the Dukan Diet

Author: Angie Labels::

I am going to give the Dukan Diet ago. I have read the book, noted the sentance which said it was good for anemia sufferers, and how not to take oat bran with supplements such as iron. So, am thinking will use the oatbran galette as a snack in the afternoon. I am grateful I can still drink tea (which, incidently, also stops the absorbtion of iron) as I could not survive a day without my cuppa! I am also going to start exercising again. I am not ready to go back to the boxing gym yet but it is certainly my aim to do so. I am going to add daily walks to my routine to include walking up steep hills in a bid to improve my stamina and breathing which are shot to pieces due to my anemia. I am going to skip daily too (a good boxers exercise). And I WILL take my iron as prescribed, something I hate to do but it allows me to get through the days without headaches and fatigue - almost. Although I am concerned about my new advised regime of only taking the iron 10 days in each month. This is because I have been told I need to take the iron for the rest of my days. Yuck! I am going to go to to the Docs this week to arrange another blood test and ask him for a medical certificate so I can do the Graciosa inter island swim in September. Gotta start training, but the sun needs to come out first otherwise the sea will feel toooo chilly.
So, as you can see I am full of good intentions but will it happen. YES! I am dertmined to loose weight so I can get fit again and feel good about myself and take part in all the activities I want to.
But why the Dukan diet? It just makes sense, and seems very do'able. I have two months off work now as it is the summer holidays so that seems an ideal time to start. My biggest worries are fitting it into the kids routine, we always eat together so need to match the menus to include them. I am also concerned at the choice available to me on this rock that I live on as it is very limited. Oh, and of course the cost. We are a family of 5 so normally stick to pasta and veg as it is so much cheaper, especially here.
Well, enough rambling. Today I weighed myself (had to buy some scales first!) and it was not pretty. I have had breakfast, a 0 fat yoghurt, and i gotta say, yuck! I am not a yoghurt fan anyway and certainly not in the morning. Think I will have to have scrambled eggs in the future.
Weight on the 5th July 2010: 82.1kg (181Ibs, 12.9 stone)
And this is my weight loss plan, although I intend to do the attack for a week - 7 days.
